For more than 26 years, I have been teaching, studying, and practising Tai Chi and Qi Gong. Over that time, I have helped people from a wide range of backgrounds discover how these arts can improve wellbeing, enhance movement, and support personal growth.

My journey began with Taiji Chuan, where I trained extensively in the martial aspects of Tai Chi. In 2005, Dr. Shen Hongxun granted me permission to teach Taiji 37, and I began leading classes in Bristol. As my studies deepened, I qualified through the Buqi Institute as both a Taijiwuxigong Instructor and a Buqi Therapist.

Driven by a genuine fascination with how the body, mind, and energy work together, I spent many years attending Dr. Shen’s courses throughout Europe, learning directly from one of the leading teachers in the field. I also contributed acupuncture illustrations for his publications, gaining further insight into the principles that underpin the practices I teach today. That commitment to learning continues; I remain an active student as well as a teacher.
Alongside my Tai Chi career, I have worked extensively in higher education, progressing to course leader for postgraduate programmes and teaching on professional teacher-training qualifications. My academic path led to doctoral research exploring the relationship between music and biomechanics, resulting in several published research papers. This combination of traditional training, practical teaching experience, and academic enquiry informs my approach to Tai Chi, helping me make complex ideas accessible, relevant, and useful in everyday life.
My classes are not about perfection or performance. They are about helping people develop a healthier relationship with their bodies, move with greater ease and confidence, and cultivate a sense of calm and resilience in an increasingly busy world.
Students often join for different reasons. Some are looking to improve balance, posture, flexibility, and coordination. Others are seeking effective ways to manage stress, support their health, and restore a sense of wellbeing. Many discover that the practice offers something deeper: greater self-awareness, focus, and personal development that extends beyond the class itself.
Whatever brings you to Tai Chi, you will find a welcoming, supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace, regardless of age, experience, or fitness level.
The benefits of Tai Chi are best understood through practice. If you are curious about improving your wellbeing, moving more freely, or exploring a lifelong path of personal development, I would be delighted to welcome you to a class. Come and experience it for yourself.
